About the Québec Longitudinal Study of Child Development (QLSCD) – Phase 3 (2011-2015)

The third phase of the QLSCD includes collections in 2011, 2013 and 2015. Aligning with the two previous phases, it aimed to follow young people throughout high school, from the age of 13 to 17.

The information collected during the third phase of the study made it possible to continue monitoring various aspects of social and school adjustment in youth. New realities that can arise during adolescence were examined, including work-school-play balance, romantic relationships, risky behaviour (smoking, alcohol and drug use, gambling), school motivation and educational aspirations, bullying, school violence, and dropping out. The situation of the young respondents was still studied, as well as their families, friends, and school settings, particularly with regard to their role as protective factors.

Funding for the study came from the Lucie and André Chagnon Foundation, the Institut de recherche Robert-Sauvé en santé et en sécurité du travail, the ministère de la Famille, the ministère de l’Éducation et de l’Enseignement supérieur, the Research Unit on Children’s Psychosocial Maladjustment and the Institut de la statistique du Québec.

In addition to the paper and computerized questionnaires administered to parents, online questionnaires were completed by the children. Home visits also took place for each of the 3 collections.

Following the Phase 3 collections, it will be possible to establish connections between the realities experienced by teenagers and the data collected in their childhood. For example, the expected impacts of some risk or protective factors identified in early childhood will be measured in young people entering adulthood.
